鼓浪嶼印象
上次回國因為航班延誤，在廈門逗留一天，遂慕名遊覽鼓浪嶼。鼓浪嶼很小，方圓不到2平方公里，卻是人傑地靈，不但有林語堂、林巧稚和弘一法師這樣的大人物，而且院士就有8位，我原來工作單位的老領導也是來自鼓浪嶼。
鼓浪嶼最有名的，當然是作為鄭成功進攻臺灣的練兵處和蔣介石逃離大陸最後的歇腳處，自此一別，天人永隔，只能魂歸故里。廈門和金門對峙，代表了一個民族的兩個觸角，下面盤根錯節，血緣關係是永遠斬不斷的。
鼓浪嶼到處綠樹成蔭，當日更兼細雨柔風，登上日光巖觀看古炮臺和日光巖寺，更具一番滋味。
南天島上綠成蔭，細雨登高望金門。
咫尺天涯分兩岸，驚濤鼓浪送歸魂。
孤忠抗戰胡虜寇，赤膽長為大漢臣。
落魄天涯流淚處，何時再作故鄉人。

Impressions of Gulangyu Island
A flight delay on my last journey back to China left me with an unexpected day in Xiamen, giving me the opportunity to visit the famed Gulangyu Island. Though covering less than two square kilometers, the island has produced an astonishing number of remarkable people, including Lin Yutang, Lin Qiaozhi, and Master Hongyi. It is also the birthplace of eight members of the Chinese Academy, and even one of my former leaders came from this tiny island.
Gulangyu is perhaps best remembered as the training ground from which Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) launched his campaign to recover Taiwan, and, centuries later, as the final stop on the mainland before Chiang Kai-shek departed forever. From that farewell onward, homeland and exile became separated by history, and only the soul could someday find its way home.
Across the narrow strait, Xiamen and Kinmen still face one another. They stand like two outstretched hands of the same people—divided above the surface, yet beneath the sea their roots remain forever intertwined, beyond the power of history to sever.
The island is shaded by ancient trees, and on that day a gentle rain and soft breeze accompanied my climb to Sunlight Rock, where the old cannon batteries and the ancient temple quietly overlooked the sea.

Soft rain veils Sunlight Rock where sea winds sigh.
Though shores lie near, two worlds are cast apart;
The surging waves bear home the longing heart.
A loyal soul once drove the northern foe;
A faithful heart still served the nation below.
Where exiles wept upon a distant shore;
When shall I call my homeland mine once more?
