Reflections

Written as the pandemic came to an end and national borders reopened. It was also Physicians' Day in the United States. After more than twenty years apart, I was reunited with classmates from medical school who now practice medicine across America. My thoughts also turned to my parents, family, and friends back in my hometown. Every reunion is a gift, and every passing day deserves to be cherished.
No hand can choose the road we tread;
Fate writes in ink no heart has read.
We meet, we part, then drift once more;
Time leaves us changed from years before.
Three silent years enclosed the land;
No loved one crossed the waiting strand.
The body stayed where walls confined;
The old world wandered through the mind.
The dreams that once outsoared the sky
Now rest like dust where seasons lie.
The hours flow on, the years depart;
Each passing spring reshapes the heart.
Beyond the hills my homeland stays;
Its clouds still fill my inward gaze.
When blossoms fall through evening air,
Love lingers on—and leads me there.
