A Hymn to the Lord's Grace
The Lord made heaven and earth in six full days;
The seventh He blessed with everlasting rest.
The sun and moon and stars keep perfect course;
The beasts, the birds, the fish—each after its own kind.
From dust He formed mankind with soul and flesh,
Exalted over all that He had made;
To bear His image and to rule the earth,
As stewards of the kingdom of our God.
The Lord prepared a garden, Eden by name,
And placed mankind within its blessed ground,
To dwell in peace and taste unending life,
Beneath His loving care forevermore.
He gave His holy law to mark His sovereign will,
That truth and righteousness might guard the heart;
The Tree of Life stood as the fount of life,
But from the Tree of Knowledge none might eat.
The Lord made angels, mighty in their strength,
Favored by God, bright as the morning star.
Yet one desired the throne that was not his;
His proud revolt was shattered by God's hand.
Cast from the courts of heaven to the earth below,
He crept as that ancient serpent of old,
With lies and cunning leading souls astray,
Deceiving nations, wandering through the world.
Our first parents, tempted, ate the forbidden fruit;
Their eyes were opened, knowing good and evil.
By toil they earned their bread through weary days;
God's favor seemed withdrawn, and fellowship was broken.
The Lord pronounced His judgment in His wrath:
The serpent stood beneath an ancient curse.
Though subtle still in all his wicked schemes,
He would crawl the dust until his final end.
Driven from Eden, lost in life and death,
Mankind cried out for mercy and redemption.
Yet God, in pity, walked beside His people,
Delivering them from peril and from judgment.
He broke their chains and led them to the promised land;
He gave the Ten Commandments as His covenant,
An everlasting guide of truth and righteousness,
Forever steadfast, never to pass away.
The human heart remains unchanged within;
At ease, it soon forgets and turns away.
By the time repentance stirs the soul,
It often wakes amid the depths of ruin.
Men bow before their idols, carved by hand,
Mistaking lifeless things for gods divine.
Before the hosts of darkness they grow mute,
Too fearful even to accuse the demons.
Then God's fierce judgment sweeps across the land,
And countless lives are swallowed up in grief.
Though many cry unceasingly for Him,
His face seems hidden from their searching eyes.
To save mankind, the eternal Word took flesh,
And walked the wilderness to seek the lost.
Upon the mount He taught the way of life,
Proclaiming glad tidings for all the world.
With five small loaves and two fish in His hands,
He fed the hungry multitudes with grace.

The lame arose, and lepers were made clean.
Whoever turns in true repentance now,
