Yosemite Falls possesses a beauty beyond description. Each spring, as the snowfields of the Sierra Nevada begin to melt, immense torrents plunge from towering granite cliffs with the roar of thunder, echoing throughout the valley. Sheer rock walls rise on either side, snow still crowns the summits, evergreen forests cloak the mountainsides, and drifting mist transforms the landscape into what seems an earthly paradise.
自谷底出發，單程約五點八公里，海拔上升八百餘米，歷經數小時攀登，方得登臨山頂，一睹瀑布源頭。山路多由亂石鋪就，崎嶇陡峭，蜿蜒於松林與巨岩之間；途中偶有清泉自石縫流出，潤澤山徑，令人頓覺心曠神怡。
Beginning on the valley floor, the trail climbs about 5.8 kilometers one way while gaining more than 800 meters in elevation. After several hours of steady ascent, hikers finally arrive at the summit to witness the birthplace of the waterfall itself. The path is rugged and steep, winding among pine forests and massive granite outcrops. Here and there, cool springs emerge quietly from cracks in the rock, refreshing both the trail and the spirit.

Located in Yosemite National Park in California, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America and one of the world’s most celebrated natural wonders. The falls consist of three sections—the Upper Fall, the Middle Cascades, and the Lower Fall—with a combined vertical drop of approximately 740 meters. Each year, as winter gives way to spring, melting snow from the Sierra Nevada pours into Yosemite Creek before plunging over immense granite cliffs in a thunderous cascade. The waterfall descends like a white dragon bursting from the mountains, filling the air with mist where brilliant rainbows often appear beneath the afternoon sun.

Yosemite Falls is more than the most recognizable landmark in Yosemite Valley; it also occupies an important place in the history of American conservation. Long before Europeans entered the valley, the Ahwahneechee people regarded these mountains and waterfalls as sacred, believing the thunder of the falls to embody the living power of nature. In 1851, European explorers became the first outsiders to record their impressions of Yosemite Valley, where the immense waterfall left them awestruck. A decade later, the pioneering photographer Carleton Watkins captured Yosemite’s grandeur in a series of remarkable photographs that circulated throughout the United States, profoundly influencing both the public and political leaders. In 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant, placing the valley under permanent protection—the first federal action of its kind and a milestone that helped lay the foundation for America’s national park system.

The Yosemite Falls Trail offers the classic route to experience this magnificent waterfall. Although the round-trip distance is only about 11.6 kilometers, the climb exceeds 800 meters in elevation, making it one of Yosemite’s most demanding and rewarding day hikes. The trail begins beneath towering pines before gradually opening onto expansive views of Yosemite Valley. Half Dome, Sentinel Rock, the Merced River, and the distant ridges of the Sierra Nevada unfold one after another like an immense landscape scroll painted across the horizon.

During the height of spring runoff, clouds of spray drift dozens of meters on the wind, soaking hikers long before they reach the brink. Countless tons of snowmelt thunder day and night across granite that has endured for millions of years, creating a spectacle that inspires both awe and reverence.
然而，真正令人難忘的，並非山谷中仰望飛瀑，而是最終登上瀑布之巔。奔騰一路的溪流，在腳下忽然收束成一道平靜的優勝美地溪，清澈見底，緩緩流淌，彷彿絲毫不知前方就是七百多米的萬丈深淵。只需再向前數步，溪水便突然躍出懸崖，化作震撼世界的優勝美地瀑布。站在瀑布頂端俯瞰山谷，巨大的落差令人心生敬畏，而回望身後，溪流依舊安然流淌。
Yet the most unforgettable experience is not gazing upward from the valley below, but standing upon the very crest of the falls. After rushing down from the high country, Yosemite Creek suddenly gathers into a calm, crystal-clear stream at one’s feet, flowing so gently that it seems unaware of the immense precipice only steps away. Then, without warning, the tranquil water leaps over the granite edge and becomes Yosemite Falls. Looking down from the brink, one cannot help but marvel at the immense drop into the valley below; turning back, however, the creek continues its peaceful course as though nothing extraordinary were about to happen.
