Christmas Eve, Far from Home
Written on Christmas Eve, 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, travel came to a standstill and families remained separated. Unable to return to China, I found myself longing for my hometown more than ever. This lyric reflects that quiet homesickness, sustained only by memory and dreams.
One drifting boat still waits beside the shore;
The old house calls as softly as before.
Red maples fade beyond the empty sky;
Ten thousand waves divide where I must lie.
The world fell still as unseen sickness came;
Like caged birds, all were prisoners the same.
Only in dreams I found my homeland's door;
Yet waking left me longing all the more.
The old house calls as softly as before.
Red maples fade beyond the empty sky;
Ten thousand waves divide where I must lie.
The world fell still as unseen sickness came;
Like caged birds, all were prisoners the same.
Only in dreams I found my homeland's door;
Yet waking left me longing all the more.
